RE: PRESS RELEASE – PENNIES FOR CHARITY: WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES
Pennies for Charity, New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman’s report of fundraising campaigns in New York, helps New Yorkers make informed decisions before contributing to charity. Now, through the Attorney General’s Pennies for Charity database, New Yorkers may easily search the reports to see how much of their contributions in response to fundraiser solicitations is actually retained by the charity. This database and the Pennies for Charity reports are based on financial reports filed with the Attorney General’s Office by professional fundraisers who conduct fundraising campaigns.
According to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Division of Consumer Affairs, the Pennies for Charity database (www.charitiesnys.com) can be searched by the name of the charity or fundraiser, or by region in New York State (e.g., Lower Hudson Valley). Consumer Affairs can be reached at 340-3260.
